THE FLATS – Five-time National Football League All-Pro DeAndre Hopkins has joined Georgia Tech football’s coaching staff as assistant wide receivers coach, head coach Brent Key announced on Friday.
“DeAndre is one of the greatest receivers of all-time, but his value to our program goes far beyond the that,” Key said. “He has an exceptional knowledge of what we’re doing on offense due his long relationship with (offensive coordinator) George Godsey and strong familiarity with the ACC, but most importantly, he’s a leader of men that I’m very excited for our players to be around, on and off the field.”
Hopkins caught 1,006 passes for 13,295 yards and 85 touchdowns in 13 NFL seasons with the Houston Texans (2013-19), Arizona Cardinals (2020-22), Tennessee Titans (2023-24), Kansas City Chiefs (2024) and Baltimore Ravens (2025). He had seven 1,000-yard seasons and earned All-Pro honors five times (first team – 2017-19, second team – 2015 and 2020). He’s also the Texans’ all-time leader in single-season receptions (115 in 2018) and touchdown receptions (13 in 2017). Hopkins’ 13 touchdown receptions in 2017 also led the NFL.
He spent three seasons alongside Godsey, who served as the Texans’ quarterbacks coach in 2014 and offensive coordinator from 2015-16. Hopkins averaged a career-best 15.9 yards per catch during Godsey’s first year with the Texans in 2014.
Hopkins played collegiately at Clemson from 2010-12, where he caught 206 passes for 3,020 yards and 27 touchdowns in three seasons, including 82 receptions for 1,405 yards and 18 TDs as a junior in 2012. He declared for the NFL Draft following his all-America campaign as a junior and was selected in the first round of the 2013 Draft (No. 27 overall) by the Texans.
Georgia Tech opens fall camp on Monday in preparation for its season opener on Thursday, Sept. 3 versus Colorado. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field and the opener will be televised nationally on ESPN.

Georgia Tech posted a 9-4 overall record (tied for the 10th-most victories in Tech’s 133-season football history) and No. 24 final national ranking in 2025. The Jackets rose to as high as No. 7 in the national rankings and were ranked in the final 14 national polls of the season, which was their longest streak since Tech was ranked in all 16 polls in 1999.
Georgia Tech also went 6-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference play in ‘25, which was good for a tie for second place in the 17-team conference. The Yellow Jackets are the only ACC team that has finished in the top four of the conference standings each of the last three seasons.
Full Steam Ahead
Full Steam Ahead is a $500 million fundraising initiative to achieve Georgia Tech athletics’ goal of competing for championships at the highest level in the next era of intercollegiate athletics.
