Graduated in December of 2016 with his degree in business administration, and celebrated the day after commencement by playing four minutes and grabbing the first two rebounds of his career vs. Alcorn State … Studied for a second bachelor’s degree in the school of history and sociology … Was named to the AllState NABC Good Works Team on Feb. 7, and celebrated that by scoring his first collegiate points vs. Tusculum at Tech … Also had a rebound and an assist in a career-high eight minutes.

High School
Versatile athlete who played basketball, golf and tennis and ran cross country at White County High School … Played three seasons of basketball for coach Sam Borg, earning second-team all-region honors in 2013 and earning a spot in the Northeast Georgia All-Star Classic … Scored career-high 28 points vs. Jackson County on Dec. 15 of his senior year … Helped carry the golf team to the region 8AAA championship in 2013 … Very involved in high school activities as well, including the Student Council (vice president), Future Business Leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Warrior TV (sideline reporter for state’s top high school student broadcasting network/see video he put together of himself on the basketball court below).

Full name is Matthew Rand Rowland … Born August 8, 1995 in Jackson, Miss. … Son of Parker and Abby Rowland … Father is retired, mother is the nutrition director for the White County School System … Has lived in Gainesville, Ga., Franklin, N.C., and Lula, Ga., before settling in Cleveland, Ga. … Third-oldest of seven children ranking from 22 to 10 … Oldest, brother Scott, graduated from Tech in December 2013 … Cousin of former Tech infielder Jeff Rowland (2008-10) who went on to play in the Detroit Tigers minor league system … Father played baseball at West Georgia College and also in the Detroit Tigers minor league system … Majoring in business administration at Tech and hopes to teach and coach on the high school level.
