General

Tremendous athlete who was a major force on the defensive end and found his place offensively during his last two seasons … Stuck to what he did best, score off the dribble, drive to the basket, get offensive rebounds and play excellent defense … Tech’s first wing sub off the bench his first two seasons primarily, then made his way into the starting lineup more and more, including 22 times as a senior.

Tech’s best on-the-ball defender who was a big part of Tech’s pressure defense … Scored many of his points by slashing to the basket or on second chances … In some ways was the Yellow Jackets’ best-known player and a major catalyst on both ends of the floor.

Added a mid-range element to his game as a senior, and also demonstrated marked improvement on the boards and vision on the floor … All but eliminated the three-point shot from his arsenal (11-for-32 his first two years, 0-for-12 the last two).

A frequent inclusion on ESPN’s Top 10 plays of the night his last two years with his acrobatic jams … ESPN the Magazine named Muhammad the top collegiate dunker in the nation during the 2003-04 season.

2004-05

Court time was severely limited over the last three weeks of the season due to patellar tendonitis in his right knee, a condition that first occurred during the 2004 NCAA tournament and continued to bother him from time to time as a senior … Missed the entire ACC Tournament, most of the second half of Tech[apos]s last regular season game against Clemson and the entire second half of Tech[apos]s first-round NCAA Tournament game against George Washington … Averaged barely 10 minutes a game in the five games he played.

Averaged 8.4 points and 5.0 rebounds for the season, numbers that slid significantly down the stretch while he dealt with his knee problems … Hit 47.3 percent of his shots from the floor and averaged nearly two assists per game.

Scored in double digits six times in an eight-game stretch from North Carolina on 1/12 through Clemson on 2/8, averaging 12.5 points over that stretch in trying to boost Tech offensively while B.J. Elder was out … Shot 51.3 pct. from the floor, 22-for-42 from the foul line, and took 14 steals in the those games … Scored 14 against Virginia Tech (6-7 FG), 11 at North Carolina, 12 at NC State and 13 at Clemson.

Played perhaps his best game of the season against Wake Forest on 1/27, certainly his best in conference play this season, with 17 points (7-11 FG, 3-6 FT) and a career-high six assists in Tech[apos]s 102-101 victory … Also grabbed three rebounds and took two steals … Pumped in 15 at Maryland despite a poor night shooting (4-of-17), but went 7-for-7 from the foul line … Also had six rebounds, three steals and two assists with no turnovers.

Averaged 8.7 points and 4.9 rebounds against the ACC during the regular season, hitting 48.3 percent from the floor.

Scored in double-figures in 11 games (27 in the last two seasons combined), including 14 and 16, respectively, in Tech[apos]s two victories over James Madison and Charleston Southern in December … Against James Madison, went 5-for-6 from the floor, including three crowd-pleasing dunks, which have became his hallmark … He was 5-of-7 against CSU … Also scored 13 against Arkansas-Little Rock (6-for-10 FG) and 12 points (5-of-9 FG) against Georgia.
