THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech softball team released its 2017 schedule, which features 33 home games at Mewborn Field and 20 games against nine 2016 NCAA Tournament participants, including two teams that made it to the Women’s College World Series. The Yellow Jackets kick off the 55-game slate Feb. 9-12 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Nine of the teams Tech plays this season advanced to a 2016 NCAA Regional (Cal, Illinois, North Carolina, Jacksonville State, Florida State, Notre Dame, Georgia, North Dakota State and Samford), and Florida State and Georgia made it to the Women’s College World Series.
The Jackets open the season in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where Tech faces tough competition in Cal, North Carolina and Illinois. It marks the first time the Jackets have played outside of the United States.
Georgia Tech returns home to host back-to-back tournaments, beginning with the ACC/Big 10 Challenge on Feb. 17-19 as the Jackets welcome Iowa, Penn State and Virginia Tech to the Mew. The Jackets host the Georgia Tech Tournament on Feb. 24-26 featuring Nebraska-Omaha, Radford and Illinois.
The Jackets then hit the road to open up ACC play at Florida State March 3-5. Tech makes the trip back to Atlanta for nine-straight home games, including three-game series against Notre Dame (March 11-12) and Syracuse (March 17-19) broken up by single games against Michigan State (March 8), Southeast Missouri State (March 14) and Georgia (March 15).
In addition to Notre Dame and Syracuse, the Jackets host ACC series with NC State (April 7-9) and Pitt (May 5-7). On the road, Georgia Tech faces Virginia Tech (March 31-April 2), Virginia (April 14-16) and Boston College (April 21-23).
Non-conference opponents include a double-header at North Florida (March 22), a three-game series in Atlanta against North Dakota State (March 25-26), vs. Georgia State (March 29) at the Mew, at Kennesaw State (April 5), at Georgia (April 12), vs. Georgia Southern (April 19), against Kennesaw State (April 25) and a doubleheader against Samford in Atlanta (April 29).
North Carolina is set to host the 2017 ACC Tournament May 11-13 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
