Smith Wins Men's Mile at South Carolina

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track and field teams finished the first day of competition at the South Carolina with an individual victory and several personal-best times.

Charlie Smith was a standout with Tech as he won the men’s mile with a time of 4:06.39. In the same event, Leif Andersen placed third (4:07.55, PR), Chris Cherono came in seventh (4:09.69, PR) and Myles Collins finished in 10th place (4:11.05, PR). In the women’s mile, Allie Walker finished 14th (5:03.76) while Gracie Marston (5:05.52, 16th) and Emma Geaney (5:10.12, 18th) ran personal-best times.

Jameson Miller placed fourth in the men’s 400m invite with a time of 47.87. Bradley Favors ran a personal best and fourth place time of 48.40 in the men’s 400m.

Taylor Grimes and Sheleah Harris qualified for the finals in the women’s 60-meter hurdles and 60-meter dash. Grimes ran a time 8.48 in the prelims and placed fifth in the finals with a time of 8.39. Harris ran a time of 7.41 in the 60-meter prelims and finished sixth in the finals with a time 7.47.

In the women’s 3000m, Katie Hamfeldt placed with a personal-best time of 10:14.25 while Erin Fegans came in fifth with a personal-best time of 10:15.60 and Sarah Burwell finished sixth with a personal-best time 10:36.90. On the men’s side, Devin Wade finished in 15th place (8:38.66, PR) and Tristan Autry finished in 18th place (8:39.96).

In the men’s long jump, John Watkins came in 10th place with a mark of 6.83 meters (22-5).
