THE FLATS – Georgia Tech swimming and diving will have six Jackets compete at the USA Swimming AT&T Winter Nationals from Nov. 30 – Dec. 3. The Jackets will be in familiar waters, swimming at the McAuley Aquatic Center.
Five Jackets from the women’s side will compete at Winter Nationals. Senior Chiara Ruiu will swim in the 200 IM, 100 breast and 200 breast. At the GT Invitational, Ruiu set the Georgia Tech record for the 200 IM twice, once in prelims and then again in the finals with a time of 2:00.58. She also set the Georgia Tech record in the 100 breast at the GT Invitational with a time of 1:01.21. She raced a season best for the Jackets in the 200 breast finals at the invitational.
Iris Wang will take on the 100 and 200 free events. She set the Georgia Tech records in those events at the GT Invitational with times of 48.91 and 1:45.92, respectively. Kaitlin Kitchens will also race in the 100 free; her career best in the event is 50.57, seventh in Tech history. She will also compete in the 50 free, holding a career-best time of 22.90 which places her fourth in Georgia Tech history.
Maddie Paschal will swim at the AT&T Winter Nationals in the 100 back. She raced a season-best time for the Yellow Jackets at the GT Invitational, touching the wall at 55.20. She holds the all-time Georgia Tech record in the event from the 2015-16 season at 54.10.
On the men’s side, freshman Aidan Pastel will race in the 100 free. Pastel raced a career-best time in the event at the GT Invitational at 20.55.
Also racing is Yuval Safra, a December graduate who competed for the Yellow Jackets from 2012-16. He will compete in the 500 free, 1650 free and 200 back events.
