THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech swim and dive teams recorded several great performances as 14 Jackets qualified for the finals on the fourth day of competition at the ACC Championships.
Two of Tech’s standout athletes were Berke Saka and Anna Bradescu. Saka qualified for the men’s 100 back finals after winning his heat and placing fourth in the preliminaries. He went on to place fourth overall in the finals with a time of 45.70. Bradescu shined in the women’s platform preliminaries with a fourth place and qualifying score of 270.10. In the finals, she placed fourth again with an impressive score of 295.50.
In total, six swimmers qualified for the men’s and women’s 200 fly. Antonio Romero (1:45.60) and David Gapinski (1:47.85) competed in the men’s C Final, finishing third and eighth in the heat.
Four women competed in the finals; McKenzie Campbell and Rei Kuramoto qualified for the B Final while Lindsey Merk and Zora Ripkova swam in the C Final. Campbell (1:57.73) placed fourth in the heat and Kuramoto (2:00.48) finished seventh. In the C Final, Merk (2:00.01) came in fifth and Ripkova (2:00.43) finished in seventh place.
Tech had a swarm of Jackets qualify in the 100 breast events. On the women’s side, Clarissa Sabin (1:01.15) and Claudia Butterfield (1:01.91) finished third and seventh in the C Final.
Daniel Kertesz, Joao Caballero, Justin Alderson and Leandro Odorici all competed in the men’s 100 breast C Final. Kertesz (53.44), Alderson (53.84) and Caballero (53.89) placed first, second and third in the heat. Odorici came in sixth with a time of 54.25.
The women’s 400 medley relay team, comprised of Kendal Chunn, Sabin, Ripkova and Anna Hadjiloizou, recorded the second-best time in Tech history (3:37.77).
UP NEXT
The Jackets will finish competition on Saturday, Feb. 18 with the 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 1650 Free and Men’s Platform Event.
