Tyler Gibson is in his third year as an undergraduate assistant coach for the Yellow Jackets and head coach Danny Hall.

A son of a baseball coach, his father Craig Gibson is the head baseball coach at Mercer University, baseball is in his blood as he played four years of minor league baseball before coming to Georgia Tech to pursue his bachelor’s degree.

Born in West Palm Beach, Fla., Gibson grew up in Macon, Ga. where in high school he was a two-time Georgia All-State player at Stratford Academy.

Tabbed the 2011 Georgia High School Baseball Player of the Year his senior season, Gibson was drafted in the 15th round of the 2011 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers.

Gibson was ranked as high as the No. 20 prospect overall and was rated the best athlete in the Detroit Tigers system after the 2011 season.

He went on to play professionally in the Detroit Tigers system from 2011-15 seeing time with the GCL Tigers, Connecticut Tigers, Lakeland Flying Tigers and West Michigan Whitecaps.

A Georgia Tech commit out of high school before signing with the Detroit Tigers, Gibson is currently working towards his bachelor’s in administration at Georgia Tech.
