THE FLATS – After going undefeated in both singles and doubles play during two road matches this past weekend, sophomore Johnnise Renaud was named the Co-ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
This is the first ACC Player of the Week honor for Renaud and the second for the Yellow Jackets this season. Junior Rasheeda McAdoo was named the ACC Player of the Week on Jan. 12. Renaud shares the honor this week with Wake Forest’s Kimmy Guerin.
The North Miami, Fla., native went undefeated this weekend as the No 24 Yellow Jackets split a pair of matches against ranked opponents on the road. Against No. 59 Tennessee, Renaud and doubles partner McAdoo posted a 6-3 win against MC Meredith and Kim Kermet to give Tech a 1-0 advantage in doubles and put them in position to clinch the point. Renaud, who is ranked at No. 61 in singles, then went on to win her singles match against Kermet, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 2 spot which gave the Jackets a 5-1 lead.
Against No. 6 Ohio State, Renaud and McAdoo won again, taking down Ferny Angeles Paz/Gabrielle DeSantis 6-1 to again give the Jackets a 1-0 lead in doubles. Renaud won her singles match against Anna Sanford on court two, 6-4, 6-2, to record Tech’s only point in the loss to the No. 6 team in the country.
Renaud and McAdoo are undefeated this season in doubles at 7-0, while Renaud is 5-1 in dual match singles play.
The Yellow Jackets return home this weekend, hosting No. 4 Georgia at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
