Reis and Preiss Named Wendy's Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

Oct. 6, 2003

ATLANTA – Football special teams standout and defensive back Chris Reis and volleyball middle blocker Alexandra Preiss were named the Wendy’s Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, October 6, 2003.

Reis, a sophomore from Roswell, Ga., recovered a fumbled kickoff that gave Tech possession at the NC State 32-yard line, setting up a field goal in Tech’s 29-21 victory over the Wolfpack. Reis, who plays on every special teams unit, also made two tackles on kickoff coverage and plays on the kickoff return team that helped spring Kenny Scott for a 90-yard return to set up another score. He also saw significant playing time in the secondary in Tech’s six-defensive back alignment. Reis was Tech’s second-leading tackler in the game with eight tackles, including three tackles for loss with one sack and one pass breakup. He was part of a defensive effort that held NC State more than 20 points below their scoring average and limited the Wolfpack to minus-eight yards rushing, the fifth-best performance in school history.

Preiss, a senior from Berlin, Germany, earned the Wendy’s Student-Athlete of the Week award for the second consecutive week and third time this year after leading the Georgia Tech volleyball team to wins over ACC opponents Maryland and Virginia as well as a victory over cross-town rival Georgia State. She posted a .554 hitting percentage on the week while averaging 4.40 kills and 1.60 blocks per game in the contests. In the match against Virginia, she recorded 11 kills on 11 attempts, tying an NCAA record for hitting percentage in a match. Preiss currently leads the team in blocks per game (1.19) and hitting percentage, with a .434 average. For her efforts, she was also named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week.
