– Georgia Tech Head Coach Paul Hewitt
Thoughts on the game… “I thought we had a lot of good chances…We settled in nicely, but couldn’t cash in.” “The game was right there but we didn’t make the plays down the stretch. The difference between this game and the Charlotte game the other night is that we couldn’t capitalize at the end of the game.”
On playing in a rivalry game…
“We talked to the guys this week about all of the records and that we could do something that a Georgia Tech team hasn`t done in a really long time. But, and it sounds cliché, when two rivals meet, the records and all that stuff get thrown out and you just have to play the game.”
On Derrick Favors…
“We just had one of those nights, there’s no other way to put it. Derrick played well, but when he picks up two fouls early it’s hard for him to get in any kind of rhythm.”
Georgia Head Coach Mark Fox
General thoughts on game…
“It was a great win for our team, our program and our school. I’m really happy for our players, they did an outstanding job. We beat a good basketball team. I have to give [Georgia] Tech credit because they’re a good team. That’s a real quality win for our program and I’m just really happy for our kids.”
On free throw shooting down the stretch…
“We shoot free throws well and we knew late in the game, that would probably be to our advantage.”
On shooting well from beyond the arch…
“We shot it well because Ricky McPhee is a great shooter. He came in and shot a lot of extra shots the other day and made 80 percent of them. I figured he would shoot really well and he’s a senior and this is his last time against [Georgia] Tech so it meant a great deal for him to play well and he did.”
On beating a ranked team…
“It means a lot to beat Georgia Tech and it means a lot to win a rivalry game. To beat a ranked team is a good step for our program and [Georgia] Tech is a good team. I have to give them credit for having such a strong program. It’s a big win for us in a lot of ways and I told the kids to leave the gym feeling good about themselves because they deserve to.”
