Pomp and Circumstance

Basketball standout Marvin Lewis made one final appearance at Alexander Memorial Coliseum as he participated in Georgia Tech’s Spring Commencement Ceremonies Saturday, graduating with high honor in Management. Former football standouts John Paul Foschi, Greg Gathers and Kelley Rhino, as well as current player Nate Curry, were also among the student-athletes who earned degrees this semester, 19 of whom are honor graduates.

Lewis, who played in the NCAA championship game less than a month ago, was joined by teammate David Nelson, who graduated with high honor in Mechanical Engineering. Fellow seniors Robert Brooks and Clarence Moore with both graduate later this year.

Curry, Tech’s top returning wide receiver for next season, earned his bachelor’s degree in Building Construction and will enroll in graduate school next fall while playing his final season.

Foschi, also a Building Construction major who earned honorable mention all-Atlantic Coast Conference honors last fall, returned from the New York Jets camp to attend commencement. He signed a free agent contract with the Jets earlier this week.

The football progam boasted four honor graduates in offensive lineman Will Hardy, who graduated with high honor in Building Construction, quarterback Brian Camp, also a Building Construction major who graduated with honor, placekicker Dan Burnett, who graduated with honor in Management, and linebacker Jonathan Rowe, who graduated with honor in Industrial Engineering.

Other members of the 2003 football squad graduating were Ather Brown, Jermaine Hatch and A.J. Suggs.

Gathers, the former all-America defensive end, and Rhino, the former all-ACC return specialist, both graduated in Management. They were joined by 2002 teammates Fred Wright (Building Construction), Jeremy Phillips (Management), and Raymond Roberts-Blake (Management).

All sports were well-represented at commencement, including the men’s and women’s track and field/cross country programs, which boasted eight honor graduates in Daniel Moss (high honor, Mechanical Engineering), David Schmidt (high honor, Management) Brendon Mahoney (honor, Management) and Spencer Irvine (honor, Aerospace Engineering) on the men’s side and Neta Ezer (highest honor, Industrial Design) Courtney Thomas (high honor, Biology) Katie Griffin (honor, Management)and Melanie Waits (honor, Industrial Engineering) from the women’s team.

The men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs featured four honor graduates in Mike Comer (highest honor, Public Policy), Amy Sutton (highest honor, Management), Eduardo Oliver (high honor, Chemical Engineering), and Ashley Skala (honor, Mechanical Engineering).

Honor graduate Erin Voeltz (highest honor, Management) led a contingent of four softball players who graduated including Soraya Reddick (Management), Tasha Waugh (Psychology) and Felicia Coursey (Science, Technology and Culture).

Four members of the women’s basketball program graduated in Fallon Stokes (Public Policy), Nina Barlin (International Affairs), Alex Stewart (International Affairs) and Megan Isom (Management), and well as Joao Menano (Industrial Engineering) of men’s tennis, Josh Hersko (Management) of men’s swimming, Amy Dock (Biology) of women’s track/cross country, Chris Crawley (Management) of men’s track, and former baseball players John Berthelsen (Management) and Heath Honeycutt (Management).
