No. 4 Yellow Jacket Tennis Cruises to 7-0 Win over No. 55 Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Amanda Craddock shut out Ashley James, 6-0, 6-0, at the third singles spot to lead No. 4 Georgia Tech (19-4, 9-1 ACC) to a 7-0 victory over No. 55 Virginia Tech (12-11, 2-8 ACC) Saturday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the Hokies’ campus.

The Jackets breezed to straight-set wins in all six singles matches after sweeping doubles earlier in the day. The Yellow Jacket tandem of Craddock and Alison Silverio stopped the Hokies’ Inga Beerman and J.J. Larson, 8-4, before Kristi Miller and Christy Striplin bested Jessica Brouwer and Abbey Walker by the identical score. Tarryn Rudman and Kirsten Flower finished off the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win at the third doubles line.

No. 69 Craddock gave the Jackets a 2-0 lead with her singles win before No. 116 Amanda McDowell pushed the score to 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Larson at the fourth singles position. Eightieth-ranked Silverio clinched match point when she dropped Jessica Long, 6-1, 6-1, at the second singles spot.

Tech’s fifth-ranked Miller shut down No. 111 Beermann, 6-4, 6-4, atop the singles lineup to push the score to 5-0 in favor of the Jackets and Striplin shut down Walker, 6-0, 6-2, at the fifth singles slot, making the score 6-0.

Rudman, ranked No. 103 in the nation in singles, bested Natalie Kretzer, 6-1, 7-5, at the sixth singles position to finish off the sweep for the Yellow Jackets.

Tech now travels to Charlottesville to close out the regular season with an 11 a.m. match against the University of Virginia Sunday.
