Kelly Anderson was a perfect 2-0 on the day as Georgia Tech blew past Virginia.
ATLANTA – Kelly Anderson had a hand in both the deciding doubles match and the overall match as Georgia Tech (10-5) swept Virginia (9-7) this afternoon at the Bill Moore Tennis Center outdoor courts.
Anderson teamed with Sekita Grant and posted an 8-3 victory to clinch the doubles point for the Yellow Jackets. Then at No. 2 singles, the 82nd ranked Anderson defeated Kristen James in straight sets to clinch the win for Tech.
Georgia Tech started the afternoon winning all three doubles matches. Kacie Anson and Alison Silverio collected the first win for the Jackets defeating Virginia’s No. 3 pair 8-2. The Jackets would take the next two doubles matches, with Lyndsay Shosho and Maria Nieto taking the third doubles match 8-4.
In singles action, Lindsey Stauss made short work of Dora Bechliwanis winning in straight sets at the No. 4 position. Following Stauss, Sekita Grant picked up her own straight set victory in the five spot setting up Anderson for the deciding match. No. 43 Lyndsay Shosho won in three sets in Tech’s top slot. Rounding out the singles matches for the Jackets, Maria Nieto and Alison Silverio both collected wins in three sets.
“I was really happy with our play today,” head coach Bryan Shelton exclaimed. “Our girls played some really solid tennis. We stayed focused all the way through the last match. We just need to come out tomorrow and finish the weekend strong.”
The Yellow Jackets return to action Sunday, March 28 when they play host to ACC rival Maryland at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. The match is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
