No. 27 Georgia Tech Men's Tennis Closes Out Regular Season with a 6-1 Win over Maryland

In the final home match of his career, senior Marko Rajevac won at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles to lead the No. 27 Georgia Tech men’s tennis team to a 6-1 victory over Maryland Friday. With the win, the Yellow Jackets win their fifth straight match and finish the regular season with an 11-8, 5-6 ACC record while the Terrapins drop to 9-10, 1-9 ACC.

The Jackets earned the first point on the afternoon winning all three doubles matches. The team of Jordan Delass and George Gvelesiani won the first match at No. 3 defeating John O’Rourke and Boris Fetbroyt by an 8-2 score. Tech then clinched the point with a win at No. 1 as David North and Rajevac combined to record a win over Scott Fink and Andrew Orban, 8-4. Soon after, Scott Blackmon and Zachary Rath completed the sweep with a win at No. 2 over Nikolai Nielsen and Andreas Vaage-Nilsen, 8-5.

The Terrapins tied the match at 1-1 when leading by a 5-4 score, Fink won by forfeit over Rath, who retired because of an injury, at No. 4 singles. The Jackets regained the lead as Rajevac earned Tech’s second point on the afternoon when he posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Nielsen at No. 1. The lead was then quickly 3-1 as Delass won at No. 2 with a straight set 6-2, 6-0 victory over Orban. The Jackets then earned the decisive point as North picked up his sixth straight singles win with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Vaage-Nillsen at No. 3.

In the final two matches on the afternoon, Gvelesiani posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Aaron Carr at No. 6 singles while Blackmon earned a victory at No. 5 singles over O’Rourke with a 6-0, 6-3 decision.

The Yellow Jackets will return to action next week when they travel to Cary, NC, to compete in the ACC Championship April 20-23.
