Scott Schnugg won at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles to lead the No. 24 Georgia Tech (10-3) men’s tennis team to a 5-2 upset over No. 21 Indiana (10-3) on Friday afternoon at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
The Jackets jumped out to an early 1-0 lead by picking up the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Schnugg teamed with Roger Anderson to an 8-6 win over the No. 37 duo of Zach Held and Ryan Recht. West Nott and Trevor McLeod paired at the No. 3 position and picked up an 8-5 win over Petr Novotny and Jakub Praibis.
In singles play the Jackets won four points as Schnugg defeated Viktor Libal at the No. 2 position in straight sets, 7-6 (3), 6-1. At the No. 3 spot, Jason Pieters needed only two sets to defeat Petr Novotny, 7-6 (7), 6-4. Joao Menano won at the No. 4 position with a victory over Zach Held, 6-0, 6-4. The final winner on the afternoon was West Nott who won at the No. 5 position over Recht, 6-4, 7-5.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action Sunday at 12 p.m. when they will face No. 39 North Carolina (7-5) in an Atlantic Coast Conference match at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
