After three Atlantic Coast Conference matches, the No. 23 Georgia Tech men’s tennis team steps out of conference to face No. 1 Georgia Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Dan McGill Tennis Complex in Athens. The Yellow Jackets enter the match with a 6-3 record while Georgia stands at 14-0.
The Jackets trail in the series between the two schools, 17-46, including a 5-2 loss last season in Atlanta. Tech’s last victory came during the 1988 season when current head coach Kenny Thorne was on the team. Since then, four matches have been decided by one point. Livestats for the match will be available at: http://georgiadogs.collegesports.com/sports/m-tennis/spec-rel/0315gatech.html.
“We don’t really need to say much as coaches for our guys to get excited about playing Georgia,” said Thorne. “They have a very good team this year, but we have to focus on ourselves. We had a good practice yesterday after getting back late Sunday from Florida State. These guys are eager to get better and as a coach, that is what I like to see.”
