CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Led by singles and doubles wins from Jaime Wong and Kelly Anderson, the 21st-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team extended its win streak to eight straight with a 4-3 win over No. 22 Virginia on Friday afternoon at the Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville, Va.
The Yellow Jackets (11-2, 3-0 ACC) won the doubles point for the eighth-straight match as Anderson and Wong led the way at the No. 1 spot with an 8-5 win over the Cavaliers’ (11-5, 1-1 ACC) 38th-ranked team of Jennifer Tuchband and Henriette Williams. Tech won the point when the tandem of Lyndsay Shosho and Mysti Morris won their fifth-straight match with an 8-4 victory over Virginia’s Lauren Bruch and Kyle Montgomery at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, the Jackets received wins at Nos. 1-3 to clinch the match. Wong was a winner at No. 2 singles, as she defeated 74th-ranked Jennifer Tuchband in straight sets. Wong won the first set by a 6-4 score and then cruised to a 6-1 second-set victory. Kelly Anderson improved her record to 11-1 on the year with a win over Virginia’s Lori Stern at No. 3 singles. Anderson had little trouble, winning by scores of 6-2 and 6-1.
Catherine Gunn was Tech’s final singles winner of the day, defeating Virginia’s 64th-ranked Henriette Williams in straight sets, by scores of 6-4 and 6-3.
The Jackets will return to action on Sunday, when they travel to face Maryland in a match that will get under way at 11 a.m.
