No. 2 Yellow Jackets Square Off Against No. 16 Irish in South Bend

Feb. 29, 2008

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech’s second-ranked women’s tennis team hits the road for a non-conference match at No. 16 Notre Dame this Saturday. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Eck Tennis Pavilion on Notre Dame’s campus. Live stats for the match will be available by going to: http://und.cstv.com/livestats/w-tennis/xlive.htm.

The Yellow Jackets (8-2, 1-0 ACC) are coming off a 6-1 victory against No. 24 Clemson in their 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference opener and are 6-1 in their last seven matches. Tech’s only two losses of the season have come against teams ranked in the top seven in the nation.

Georgia Tech has been ranked in the top five all season and currently has seven ranked singles players in addition to two doubles pairs that appear in the top-25.

The Yellow Jackets are 2-0 against the Irish, with both meetings coming in 2007.

Amanda McDowell, Tech’s top-ranked singles player, has notched 26 singles victories in 2008 while Kristi Miller has also eclipsed 20-win mark in singles, with 21 in her senior season. Miller and sophomore Kirsten Flower are tied for the most dual-match victories on the team, as both players hold an 8-1 record in those matches.

Tech’s freshman trio of Noelle Hickey, Maya Johansson and Sasha Krupina have combined for 36 singles and 24 doubles victories in 2008 while senior Whitney McCray has had a breakout season in singles, posting 17 victories this year.

Following the Jackets’ match at Notre Dame, the Yellow Jackets will return to Atlanta to host Vanderbilt for a midweek match next week.
