No. 14 Virginia Edges Tech, 4-3

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis dropped their match against No. 14 Virginia on Friday, 4-3. Of the seven losses for Tech on the season, five have come by way of the 4-3 margin.

The Yellow Jackets came out strong, taking the doubles point off of Virginia. The doubles pairing of Andres Martin and Marcus McDaniel made quick work to start the momentum in the doubles point, winning their match 6-3. Martin/McDaniel fell behind 2-1 early before taking control of the match to win 6-3.

After Virginia took No. 2 doubles, all eyes turned to No. 3 doubles, which was tied at 5-5. With their teammates cheering them on, Keshav Chopra and Chen Dong won the final two games to take a 7-5 match win and secured the doubles point for Georgia Tech.

Singles action did not start in the favor of the Jackets, losing the first four singles. The two matches that were remaining were won by Keshav Chopra at No. 3 singles, 5-7, 7-6 (9-7), 6-4 and Pablo Schlecher at No. 6 singles, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.

The White and Gold will host Virginia Tech on Sunday, March 20 in a battle of the ACC Tech schools. The match starts at 10 a.m. and admission is free.
