AUBURN, Ala. – The 10th-ranked Georgia Tech Women’s Tennis team (2-0) cruised past No. 35 Auburn (1-1), 7-0, Sunday afternoon at the Yarborough Tennis Center.
The Yellow Jackets opened the day by taking two-of-three doubles matches to earn a 1-0 lead. Hillary Davis and Viet Ha Ngo, playing on court two, defeated Auburn’s Myrthe Molenveld and Daniela Vukadinovic, 8-1. The Jackets No. 1 tandem of Irina Falconi and Sasha Krupina clinched the point with an 8-1 victory of their own over Fani Chifchieva and Caroline Thornton.
Senior Amanda McDowell, playing in the No. 4 singles position, put the Jackets up 2-0 behind a 6-1, 6-0 win over Vukadinovic. No. 1 Irina Falconi pushed Tech’s lead to 3-0 when she finished off Chifchieva, 6-1, 6-1 at the top spot in the lineup.
Viet Ha Ngo clinched the match for the Jackets with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Thorton. It was the second straight match she has clinched for Tech.
Also earning singles win for the Jackets were junior Sasha Krupina on court two, sophomore Lynn Blau on court five and freshman Elizabeth Kilborn in the No. 6 position in the lineup.
The Yellow Jackets return home next weekend when they host the 2010 ITA Kick-Off Weekend. The Jackets will face Arizona State Saturday at the Bill Moore Tennis Center in the first round at 2:30 p.m. Alabama and Kentucky will meet in the other first round match at 9 a.m.
