Box Score

ATLANTA –

Unable to capitalize on the momentum of winning a close doubles competition, Georgia Tech suffered straight-set losses at No. 1 and 2 singles and fell to 25th-ranked Wake Forest, 4-2, Friday afternoon at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.

The Yellow Jackets dropped to 6-9 overall, 1-5 in the ACC, and will host NC State Sunday at 1 p.m. The Demon Deacons improved to 13-6, 3-1.

Tech won the doubles point when Eliot Potvin and Austin Roebuck outlasted Jon Wolff and David Hopkins in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-5) at No. 3, after a 19-minute delay occurred when the tennis center lights went out. Tech’s No. 1 team of Guillermo Gomez and Ryan Smith, ranked No. 61, took the nation’s No. 1 team of Cody Parr and Steven Forman to the limit, but lost 8-6. Kevin King and Doug Kenny dispatched Wake’s Carlos Salmon and Iain Atkinson, 8-5.

But Parr, ranked 25th in singles, defeated 12th-ranked Gomez, 6-3, 6-0, and Forman handled Miguel Muguruza, 6-4, 6-4, to take the lead for Wake Forest, 2-1. Wake’s Jon Wolff made it a sweep of the top three singles spots with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Tech freshman Kevin King at No. 3.

After Eliot Potvin put Tech on the board with a 6-3, 6-4 win over David Hopkins at No. 4, Iain Atkinson clinched the match for the Demon Deacons with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Yellow Jacket freshman Dusan Miljevic at No. 5.

Ryan Smith and Jason Morganstern did not finish their match at No. 6.
