Moss, Gibbs Lead Jackets at Rain-Shortened Yellow Jacket Invitational

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams fought through some bad weather to compete on the second day of the Yellow Jacket Invitational at the George C. Griffin track on the Georgia Tech campus.

The track meet was called early after several lightning delays and more bad weather on the way. Meet officials decided to call the meet after lightning was spotted during the men’s 800-meter run.

Shantia Moss, running through the raindrops, led the women’s team with a win in the 60-meter hurdles with an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 13.39.

Jenny Sims finished second in the women’s 1500-meter run with a time of 4:32.48. In the women’s 400-meter dash, Kayla McKeirnan crossed the line ninth with a time of 56.98.

Sims placed third in the women’s 800-meter run with a time of 2:14.61. Amanda Montgomery crossed the line in sixth place with a time of 2:15.82.

Running in a heavy downpour, Jenae Anderson finished the women’s 100-meter dash with a time of 12.00 for a seventh-place finish.

On the men’s side, E.C. Gibbs placed third in the 1500-meter run after crossing the line with an NCAA Regional qualifying and personal-best time of 3:47.03. David Herren placed fifth in the race with a personal-best time of 3:48.83 and Nazar Triliksy crossed the line eighth with a personal-best time of 3:55.58.

Billy Mateker placed fifth in the men’s 800m with a time of 1:54.37. Tim Guglielmo crossed the line ninth with a time of 1:56.88.

In the men’s long jump, Nigel Orr finished second with a mark of 23 feet, 8 ¾ inches. James Lemons II placed ninth with a mark of 22 feet, 2 ½ inches.

Steve Marcelle placed third in the men’s shot put with an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 57 feet, 10 ¼ inches. Andy Powlen also finished with an NCAA Regional qualifying mark landing in fourth place with a throw of 56 feet, 8 ½ inches.

The Jackets return to action next Friday-Saturday, April 4-5 at the Auburn Invitational at Hutsell-Rosen Track on the Auburn University campus.
