Morrow and Nnamaka Named Wendy's Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

ATLANTA – Rookie basketball stars Anthony Morrow and Chioma Nnamaka were named the Wendy’s Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, January 10, 2005.

Morrow, a freshman from Charlotte, N.C., picked up the slack in the absence of injured B.J. Elder, averaging 13.0 points in Tech’s two ACC victories last week, going 7-of-14 from the floor and 6-of-12 from three-point range. The freshman scored 11 points in a career-high 24 minutes against Miami, hitting 4 of 8 shots (3-of-6 from three) with two rebounds and an assist. Against Virginia, he scored 13 points despite playing just 14 minutes due to foul trouble, hitting 3 of 6 three-point shots and 4 of 4 free throws. He also grabbed a season-high five rebounds and blocked two shots. Morrow is currently shooting 46.5 percent from three-point range this season.

Nnamaka, a freshman from Uppsala, Sweden, scored a career-high 30 points and pulled down seven offensive rebounds at Florida State in the first ACC game of her career while shooting 63.2 percent from the field. With the Yellow Jackets down by one point with 38 seconds remaining, Nnamaka hit a three-pointer from the top of the key, her fourth of the contest, to put Georgia Tech up by two. On the week, the freshman from Uppsala, Sweden averaged 23.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 60 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from the free-throw line. She also converted on all five three-point attempts against UAB and FSU, scoring a total of 46 points (23.0 ppg) in the two games.
