COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Sparked by a singles and doubles win from senior Mysti Morris, the 21st-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team picked up its ninth-straight victory of the season by rolling to a 6-1 win over Maryland on Sunday afternoon in College Park, Md.
The Yellow Jackets (12-2, 4-0 ACC) started the day in strong fashion, winning the doubles point when the team of Morris and freshman Lyndsay Shosho defeated the Terrapins’ (7-6, 0-3 ACC) team of Emily Marker and Chloe Chavardes by an 8-6 score at the No. 2 spot. Tech won its second match in doubles by default at the No. 3 position.
Morris earned her second win of the day in singles action, as she defeated Chavardes in straight sets at No. 5. Morris won the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 and then cruised to a 6-3 win in the second frame. Fellow senior Jaime Wong won her seventh-straight match at No. 2 singles, defeating Maryland’s Emily Marker in straight sets by scores of 6-4 and 6-1.
Jacket rookie Kelly Anderson was Tech’s third singles winner of the day, as she improved to 12-1 on the year with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Marta Jedrzejak at No.3 singles. The final singles winner of the day for the Yellow Jackets was junior Sekita Grant, who had little trouble with the Terps’ Jennifer Dent at No. 4 singles, winning by a 6-4, 6-1 score in straight sets.
Georgia Tech will return to action on Thursday, April 3, when it travels to Clemson for a match that will get under way at 2:30 p.m.
