LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Senior Monique Mead was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-East Region Team the AVCA announced Tuesday. It marks the third straight AVCA postseason honor for Mead, as she earned honorable mention recognition her freshman year.
“I’m proud of Mo for being named to the East All-Region team for the third year in a row,” head coach Tonya Johnson said. “What a great accomplishment for her and our program.”
Mead recently earned All-ACC honors for the fourth year of her career, making her just the 13th player in ACC history and fourth player at Tech to accomplish the feat.
The Newnan, Ga., native led the team this season with 459 kills, 56 serving aces and 562 points. Her 3.96 kills per set average was second in the ACC, and she led the league and ranked No. 7 in the NCAA with .48 serving aces per game.
In 2012, she tallied double-digit kills in every match but two, recorded 12 double-doubles and led the team in kills in 18 matches.
In her senior season on the Flats, she became the all-time leader in career kills at Georgia Tech with 1,918, eclipsed 1,000 career digs and reached the 2,000-point mark. She is in the top 10 in six Georgia Tech career categories, two single-match and three season record lists.
