GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech sophomore right-side hitter Monique Mead has been named the ACC Volleyball Player of the Week the league office announced on Monday. The Newnan, Ga., native led the Yellow Jackets to a 2-0 weekend with wins over Miami (3-2) and No. 20 Florida State (3-0).
Mead averaged 4.88 kills per set and hit .279 on the weekend trip through the Sunshine State. She also added five service aces, 16 digs and eight total blocks. In Friday night’s win at Miami, Mead recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 22 kills and 10 digs. She followed that up with a match-high 17 kills in the upset win at No. 20 Florida State on Sunday. After having just one kill and four errors in the first set, Mead bounced back with 16 kills in the final two sets against the Seminoles. 10 of them came in the second set alone.
Mead continues to lead the ACC in kills (4.41). She has seven matches with at least 20 kills now.
Mead and the Yellow Jackets have won four straight ACC road matches and now return home for five straight at O’Keefe Gym. The homestand begins Friday night against first-place North Carolina at 7 p.m. It’s the annual “Dig for the Cure” match with all of the money raised benefiting the Susan G.
