Miller, Silverio, and Kidd Named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

ATLANTA – Jerome Miller, Alison Silverio, and Ashlee Kidd were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, May 28, 2007.

Miller, a junior from Stafford, Va., competed at the NCAA East Region Championships this past weekend in Gainesville, FL. The All-American cleared the pole at a level of 7 feet, 1 inch. Miller leaped his way in to another spot at the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive outdoor season by garnering a second-place finish at the East Regional. His performance also helped the Georgia Tech men’s team to an overall 10th place finish at the competition.

Silverio, a senior from Louisville, Ohio, defeated Tracy Lin of UCLA in three sets to clinch the NCAA title for the Georgia Tech women’s tennis team. Silverio, ranked 93rd in the nation, finished the NCAA Tournament with a perfect 3-0 record in singles play. She finishes her senior season with a 27-10 overall singles record, while partnering with Amanda Craddock to finish the season with a 15-5 overall record in doubles action.

Silverio and Craddock finished the tournament with two wins and two losses. The NCAA Championship is the first for any Georgia Tech athletic team.

Kidd, a senior from St. Petersburg, Fl., garners student-athlete of the week honors for her stellar performance at the NCAA East Region Championship this past weekend in Gainesville, Fl. Kidd concluded the weekend by producing a personal-best time of 51.46 in the 400-meter run, a mark that placed her 3rd overall. She went in to the 400-meter finals in the first overall position by posting a run of 52.37 on day one of competition.

Kidd will join Miller, along with five other Tech track & field athletes at the NCAA Championships June 6-9 in Sacramento, Calif.
