Miller Advances to Singles Finals at Baylor Invitational

Waco, Tex.– – Kristi Miller continued her stellar play and advanced to Sunday’s Open Singles Final match against Baylor’s Carolin Walter in the Baylor Invitational Saturday afternoon. The freshman will be facing her second seeded player of the tournament after downing Dianne Hollands of Arizona, 6-2, 7-5, as Walter is the No. 4 seed.

Miller began the day by defeating Texas’ Courtney Sauft, 6-7, 6-1, 6-1 in the Round of 16 before advancing to the semifinals by defeating Baylor’s Zuzana Zemenova, 1-6, 6-0, 6-0 in the quarters. Junior Kelly Anderson also advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating UTA’s Monika Peciulionyte, 6-1, 6-2, but fell to Walter by a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 score to end her singles run.

In the Green Back Draw, sophomore Lindsey Stauss downed Tulsa’s Santie Delport, 6-3, 6-1, in the Round of 16 and Gretal Hach of UTA, 6-1, 6-4 to advanced to Sunday’s semifinals, while junior Lyndsay Shosho defeated Baylor’s Zuzana Krchnakova, 6-2, 7-5, before falling to Baylor’s Daniela Covello, 6-2, 6-2 in quarterfinal action. Senior Dasha Potapova rounded out the Georgia Tech singles victors on the day by advancing to Sunday’s semifinal play by defeating UTA’s Pavla Mesterova, 1-6, 6-4, 7-6.

Potapova and junior Kacie Anson will play TCU’s Helena Besovic and Karla Mancinas in the Open Doubles Finals on Sunday after defeating SMU’s Jennifer Chay and Jenny Langer, 8-6, in the quarterfinals and Texas’ Ristine Olson and Courtney Zauft, 8-5, Saturday evening. Miller and sophomore Alison Silverio ousted the No. 1 doubles seed of Dianne Hollands and Majar Mlakar of Arizona, 8-5, in the quarterfinals, but were unable to come back against TCU’s Besovic and Mancinas, losing 8-6.

The Yellow Jackets will conclude play at the Baylor Invitational Sunday and have a two-week break prior to their next tournament.
