ATHENS, Ga. – No. 12 Kristi Miller advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Individual Singles Championships with a 6-2, 6-3 win over 22nd-ranked Margarita Karnaukhova of Sacramento State Tuesday afternoon at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia.
The rookie All-American will play fourth-ranked Audra Cohen of Northwestern, the tournament’s No. 3 seed, in the next round, which will be played Wednesday at 10 a.m.
Miller, a native of Marysville, Mich., fell behind 0-2 in the first set, but won the next six games to take the frame, 6-2. She then jumped to a 4-1 lead in the second set and captured her 42nd victory on the season with a 6-3 win in the frame.
Miller will team with doubles partner Alison Silverio in the NCAA Doubles Championship, which will begin this afternoon at 3 p.m. The 17th-ranked duo will face the University of Florida’s top tandem of Jennifer Magley and Zerene Reyes, who are ranked ninth in the nation.
