Tulsa, Okla. – Dusan Miljevic and Juan Spir each won two matches Sunday and advanced to the qualification portion of the D’Novo Men’s ITA All-American Tennis Championships, the first national singles and doubles titles of the 2010-11 collegiate tennis season.
Miljevic, a junior from Novi Sad, Serbia, defeated Eric West of Oklahoma State in three sets (3-6, 6-3, 6-2) in the third round of the pre-qualification draw, then dispatched Javier Pulgar of San Diego State) in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6 (1) in the fourth round.
Spir, a sophomore from Medellin, Colombia, lost the first set in each of his matches Sunday, but rallied to defeat Krzysztof Muzalewski (Old Dominion), 3-6, 6-0, 6-1, in the third round, and Benedikt Lindheim (Nebraska), 5-7, 6-1, 7-5, in the fourth.
Both players will join Tech senior Eliot Potvin and junior Kevin King in the qualification draw of the championship, which begins Monday and concludes Wednesday. The main draw, in which Tech All-American Guillermo Gomez is already entered, begins Thursday.
The tournament includes six rounds of prequalifying and qualifying matches before the main draw commences. The D’Novo/ITA Men’s All-American Championships, hosted by the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Okla. for the fourth straight year.
