Metivier Leads Tech Women's Cross Country to 10th-place Finish at NCAA Preview; Yellow Jackets' Men Place 25th

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Georgia Tech sophomore Renee Metivier placed second individually to lead the Georgia Tech women’s cross country team to a 10th-place finish in the Women’s Purple 6K at the NCAA Preview/Furman Invitational on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets’ men’s squad finished 25th in the 36-team Men’s Gold 8K.

Metivier logged a time of 20:59 over the six-kilometer course, finishing second to Colorado’s Molly Austin, who posted a time of 20:48. This performance marked the second top-10 finish in as many races for Metivier this season.

Following Metivier were sophomore Katie Griffin, who placed 44th in a time of 22:17, and senior Sara Pardue, who clocked at time of 22:30 to finish 57th. Also scoring for Tech were senior Amy Edwards, who finished 102nd, and freshman Katie deVaux, who placed 117th. The Yellow Jackets scored 322 points to finish 10th out of 34 teams.

Tech’s men’s squad was led by senior Joey Zins, who finished 76th in a time of 25:38. He was followed by senior Phillip Gable, who placed 118th in a time of 26:01, and sophomore Neil McDonagh, who ran a time of 26:17 to place 147th. Sophomore Kyle Rabbitt, who finished 153rd, and Jeffrey Boyd, who placed 181st, rounded out the scoring for the Jackets, who totaled 675 points to defeat ACC foes Clemson and North Carolina.

Eastern Michigan’s Boaz Cheboiywo claimed the individual title in the Men’s Gold 8K, while Colorado earned the team crown. Georgetown was victorious in the Women’s Purple 6K.

The meet took place on the Furman Cross Country Course, the home of the 2001 NCAA Championships. The NCAA Preview field was split into two men’s and two women’s races to accommodate all the teams.

Tech returns to action October 27th at the ACC Championships in Clemson, S.C.
