Men's Tennis Falls to No. 19 North Carolina, 4-3

West Nott dropped the deciding match to Raian Luchici at No. 4 singles as the No. 19 North Carolina Tar Heels held on to defeat the No. 35 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 4-3, Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 12-6, 4-3 ACC while the Tar Heels improve to 18-2, 4-0 ACC.

The Yellow Jackets opened the match dropping the doubles point as the 21st-ranked duo of Nicholas Monroe and Geoff Boyd defeated the Jackets’ 11th ranked tandem of Scott Schnugg and Marko Rajevac, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Jonathan Janda and Raian Luchici defeated Zachary Rath and Jose Luis Muguruza, 8-4 giving the Tar Heels the point. Tech’s only victory in doubles came at No. 2 where Jason Pieters and West Nott combined together to beat Andy Metzler and Brad Pomeroy, 8-5.

After dropping the doubles point, Tech fought hard, posting wins at No. 1 singles as #65 Scott Schnugg upset #31 Nicholas Monroe in straight sets, 7-6 (5), 6-2, Pieters defeated Metzler at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-3 and Muguruza held on to defeat Porter, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-3 at No. 2 singles. The Tar Heels took points at No. 5 singles as Pomeroy defeated Rath in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 and Boyd swept Rajevac, 6-2, 6-1.

The Yellow Jackets will return to action Sunday when they host Florida State at 1 p.m.
