Men's Tennis Defeats Miami, 5-2

Seniors West Nott, Joao Menano and Scott Schnugg each posted singles victories in their final home match of their careers as the No. 34 Georgia Tech men’s tennis team defeated #40 Miami, 5-2. With the win the Yellow Jackets improve to 15-6 on the year while the Hurricanes fall to 11-7.

The Yellow Jackets opened the match winning the doubles point as Jose Luis Muguruza and Jason Pieters defeated P.J. Passalacqua and John Hoyes II, 8-5 at No. 2, and West Nott and Joao Menano paired to beat Jeremiah Fuller and Josh Cohen, 8-6 at No. 3 doubles. At No. 1 doubles, the tandem of Eric Hechtman and Colin Purrell upset No. 15 Marko Rajevac and Schnugg, 8-6.

In singles play, Nott held on to beat Hoyes at the No. 4 position, 6-1, 7-6 (0), No. 46 Schnugg clinched the match with a 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 win over Cohen at No. 1 singles and Menano defeated Fuller, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. Tech received its fifth point by default at No. 6 singles. The Hurricanes earned their points with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles as Purrell upset No. 68 Muguruza, 6-2, 7-5 and #119 Hechtman defeated Pieters, 6-2, 6-4.

The Yellow Jackets will return to action Friday in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament held in Raleigh, NC. Tournament pairings will be announced Monday afternoon.
