McDowell Reaches Final Four at NCAA Singles Championships

May 24, 2008

ATLANTA – Sophomore All-American Amanda McDowell has become the first women’s tennis player in school history to advance to the semifinals of the NCAA Singles Championships after recording a straight-set win over Baylor’s Lenka Broosova in quarterfinal action Saturday.

McDowell, the seventh-seeded player in this year’s tournament, notched her single-season record 43rd singles win of the season with an easy 6-3, 6-2 victory over Broosova and will face Auburn’s No. 9-16 seed Fani Chifchieva Sunday in the semifinals.

Broosova’s teammate Zuzana Zemenova and top-seeded Aurelija Miseviciute will square off in the other semifinal match Sunday.

With her quarterfinal win Friday, McDowell recorded her 42nd singles victory of the 2008 season, tying the mark for most singles wins in a season at Georgia Tech. Kristi Miller, a senior on the 2008 squad that finished her career with 151 singles wins, notched 42 singles wins in her first year on the Flats.

McDowell has an 82-18 career singles record in her first two years on the Flats.
