McDaniel/Martin Advance at ITA Fall Nationals

SAN DIEGO Marcus McDaniel and Andres Martin won their match on Friday against Sah/Basing of Stanford, 6-4, 7-6(4).

McDaniel/Martin played Sah/Basing tight but the pivotal moment in the match came in set one, game seven. McDaniel/Martin were serving down 40-15 in the game. The set was tied at 3. McDaniel/Martin fended off three break points to secure the game. They carried this momentum to a 6-4 victory.

Set two went to a tie breaker. Despite the tiebreaker ending 7-4, McDaniel/Martin were up 6-2 and the writing was on the wall for a trip to the quarterfinals.

The doubles pairing will face Simon/Savva of Charlotte at 3 p.m. EST on Saturday with a potential semifinal match at 6:30 p.m. EST.

Martin dropped his singles match to Stefan Dostanic of USC, 7-6(5), 6-2. Martin fell behind 5-1 in set one before battling back to tie the set at 5-5. The eventual tiebreaker was a back and forth affair that Martin eventually dropped. Martin fell behind early in set two and could not make the same comeback, ultimately dropping the set and match.

Action for the Jackets continues in San Diego with the matchup against Simon/Savva at 3 p.m. EST. If McDaniel/Martin win that match, they will face either No. 27 Lah/Bass of Baylor or No. 40 Vocel/Cash of Ohio State in the semifinals of the doubles main draw at 6:30 p.m. EST.
