THE FLATS – Freshman diver Max Fowler (Fairfax, Va.) has been named ACC Men’s Diver of the Week, as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference on Tuesday. This is the second time Fowler has been recognized by the league office this month.
Fowler was a standout for the Jackets this past week, placing first in the men’s 1-meter and 3-meter dive at both the Georgia and Emory meets.
“Max is one of the hardest workers I’ve had!” head diving coach John Ames stated. “He came to us a little rusty from the break over the summer, but at the UGA meet you could really see things come back into form.”
At the meet versus archrival Georgia, Fowler scored 343.95 points in the men’s 1-meter dive and 413.55 points in the 3-meter dive to secure a first-place finish. Fowler’s 3-meter dive was recorded as the third best score in the nation.
“Along with the other divers on the team, Max has really turned the level of intensity in practice up a notch,” stated Ames. This intensity showed in Friday’s meet against Emory as Tech destroyed Emory with a total score of 404.5 points to Emory’s 192.5 points through 32 events.
Fowler continued his first-place campaign, ending the meet with 384.00 points in the men’s 1-meter dive and 367.88 points in the men’s 3-meter dive.
Georgia Tech will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 19 in the McAuley Aquatic Center as they take on Florida State.
