GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech senior OG Shaquille Mason and junior DB D.J. White have been named ACC Co-Offensive Lineman and Defensive Back of the Week, respectively, Monday by the league office.
Mason, his third honor of the season, anchored Tech’s offensive line that allowed the Jackets to rush for 399 yards and three TDs on the ground in their 30-24 road OT win at No. 9 Georgia. It was the 46th time that the Jackets have rushed for 300+ yards in a game under head coach Paul Johnson, posting a 37-9 record in those contests. Both Zach Laskey’s go-ahead TD in regulation and his eventual game-winner in overtime came behind the blocking of Mason. Tech’s offensive line also did not allow a sack against the Bulldogs.
White earned his first ACC Player of the Week nod after recording the game-clinching interception in overtime of Tech’s 30-24 win at Georgia. White finished the game with four tackles, 1.0 tackle-for-loss, and arguably the biggest takeaway of his career. He is the first Tech player to record an interception in three straight games since Dominique Reese in 2008.
No. 12 Georgia Tech will vie for the program’s 17th conference title Saturday against No. 2 Florida State in the 2014 Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET on ABC in Charlotte, N.C.
