Marshall Named Semifinalist for Campbell Trophy

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech senior offensive lineman Andrew Marshall is a semifinalist for the 2017 William V. Campbell Trophy, presented by Fidelity Investments, the National Football Foundation announced on Wednesday. Often referred to as the “Academic Heisman,” the Campbell Trophy annually recognizes college football’s top scholar-athlete.

Marshall is one of 181 semifinalists for the 2017 Campbell Trophy. Nominees must be a senior or a graduate student in their final year of eligibility, have a grade point average of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, display outstanding football ability as a first-team player or significant contributor and demonstrate strong leadership and citizenship.

Marshall played in 33 games over the past three seasons and made nine starts at tackle for the Yellow Jackets in 2016. He was a key member of a Georgia Tech offensive front that helped pave the way for the Jackets to lead the ACC in rushing (258.1 ypg) a season ago.

In the classroom, he owns 3.4 grade point average in business administration (operations and supply chain management concentration) and is on pace to graduate this December in just three-and-a-half years. He has been on the Dean’s List each of his six semesters at Tech, is a three-year member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll and was one of just four Yellow Jackets to be named to the ACC’s 2016 academic all-conference football team.

Marshall has yet to appear in a game this season due to a lower-body injury sustained during preseason camp.

The NFF will pare the list of 181 semifinalists to 12-14 finalists on Nov. 1, which each finalist receiving an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2017 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class. One finalist will be named the winner of the 2017 Campbell Trophy on Dec. 5 at the NFF Annual Awards Dinner in New York City. The winner’s postgraduate scholarship will be increased to $25,000.

Georgia Tech football (2-1, 1-0 ACC) looks to move to 2-0 in ACC play on Saturday when it hosts longtime league rival North Carolina (1-3, 0-2 ACC) at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
