Lasater, Daniel Named to ACC Academic Outdoor Team

June 30, 2015

THE FLATS – Junior Nathan Daniel and seniors Brandon Lasater and Samantha Becker of the Georgia Tech track and field team were named to the 2015 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Academic Team, the ACC announced Tuesday.

To be eligible for All-ACC Academic Team consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his or her academic career.

Daniel, who was named to the All-ACC Academic Indoor Team, majors in electrical engineering and maintains a 3.40 cumulative GPA. The Atlanta, Ga., native hit a huge personal-best of 5.12m (16-9.50) for second place at the Yellow Jacket Invite in the pole vault. He earned Second Team All-ACC honors in the pole vault with a sixth place finish at the ACC Outdoor Championships and qualified for the NCAA East Preliminaries.

Lasater is also an electrical engineering major, was named to the All-ACC Academic Indoor Team and owned a 3.52 cumulative GPA.  The Perry, Ga., native ran a leg of the 4×800-meter relay that won the Florida Relays for the third straight year and anchored the 4×800-meter relay team that won the event at the prestigious Penn Relays.

Lasater placed fourth in the 800 meters and fifth in the 1,500 meters at the ACC Championships to earn All-ACC Second Team honors in both events. This summer, he won the mile in a sub four-minute time of 3:59.24, breaking Georgia Tech’s school record and outkicking two-time Olympian Nick Symmonds at the Music City Distance Carnival on Vanderbilt’s campus. The time is the first outdoor sub four-minute mile in Georgia Tech history and Lasater became the first native born Georgian to ever break four minutes in a mile.

Samantha Becker earned a 4.0 GPA in civil engineering during the spring and maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.83. Becker was named All-ACC First Team after a third place finish and a huge PR in the pole vault of 4.21m (13-9.75) at the ACC Championships. She recorded eight top-10 finishes, and qualified for the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
