ATHENS, Ga. – Sophomores Megan Kurey and Kendal Woodard secured a trip to New York to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Tournament after capturing the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Doubles Title this morning.

The #26-ranked Kurey and Woodard defeated #50 Lauren Herring and Maho Kowase of Georgia, 8-2, to capture the regional doubles title. It was the fifth-straight opponent that the duo beat this past weekend at the tournament, which was hosted at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Kurey and Woodard were the number three overall seed in the doubles main draw. Overall this fall, Woodard and Kurey are 10-4 in doubles and 4-3 against nationally ranked opponents.

Kurey and Woodard will now compete at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Tournament in New York, which begin on Nov. 7.

This wasn’t the first fall ITA event for the sophomore duo. Kurey and Woodard competed at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships during the week of Oct. 1. The tandem fell in the doubles main draw to #15 Kay and Price. Kurey and Woodard then defeated three-straight ranked opponents to make it to the consolation bracket finals, including two opponents ranked in the top five, #2 Fuller and Garcia of Georgia and #4 Hermon Brhane and Whitney Ritchie of Oklahoma. The pair fell to #3 Bolender and Bektas of Michigan in the finals.

The Yellow Jackets are off this weekend and are back in action on Nov. 1 when they travel to the Crimson Tide Invitational.
