PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Sophomores Megan Kurey and Kendal Woodard advanced to the back draw doubles final at the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships but eventually fell to Michigan’s #3 Brooke Bolender and Emina Bektas, 8-5.
Kurey and Woodard, who are ranked at #26 in the ITA doubles preseason poll, defeated #2 Kate Fuller and Silvia Garcia of Georgia, 8-4, in the semifinals. Fuller and Garcia were the # 1 seed in the doubles main draw while Bolender and Betkas were the #2 overall seed.
After being eliminated from the doubles main draw in the first round, Kurey and Woodard went on to defeat three-straight ranked opponents to make it to the finals in the back draw bracket. The duo defeated two pairs ranked in the top five, # 2 Fuller and Garcia of Georgia and # 4 Hermon Brhane and Whitney Ritchie of Oklahoma.
The women’s tennis team is back in action this upcoming weekend when it travels to the Vanderbilt Invitational on Oct. 11.
