Kristi Miller won a pair of singles matches to advance to the final round of the Pre-Qualifier at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Seeded 13th in the Pre-Qualifier, Miller defeated UNLV’s Sharon Marin, 6-2, 6-2, in the morning round before stopping Florida’s Alex Liles, 6-3, 7-6(2) in the afternoon to advance to the Pre-Qualifier final. She will play Duke’s Kristin Cargill Monday for a chance to join teammates Lyndsay Shosho and Kelly Anderson in the Qualifying Round of the tournament.
Also recording singles victories on the day were Dasha Potapova and Kacie Anson. Potapova downed Old Dominion’s Fernanda Luiz, 6-2, 6-1 in the second round of singles, but was unable to overcome a slow start and fell to Northwestern’s Audra Cohen, 6-1, 6-2 in round three. Anson, a junior from Fayetteville, Ga., won her first match of the day, 6-2, 6-3 against Tulane’s Mariea Saaibi, but lost 6-1, 6-2 to Duke’s Clelia Deltour in the afternoon round.
Anson and Potapova also advanced to the third round in doubles play via a bye in Sunday’s action, and joining them Monday afternoon will be the duo of Miller and sophomore Alison Silverio. Miller and Silverio improved to 6-0 on the season by defeating Purdue’s Alyssa Rodriguez and Hala Sufi, 8-5, Sunday evening.
Miller will play the fourth round of singles play Monday morning, and the Jackets’ doubles teams will play rounds three and four in the afternoon. Results will be posted on www.ramblinwreck.com at the conclusion of Georgia Tech’s play Monday evening.
