THE FLATS – Georgia Tech’s Mary Kathryn Knott earned the ACC Freshman of the Week award after an eighth-place finish at the Bulldog Invitational announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
In her first collegiate meet, Knott clocked a time of 21:19.9 in the women’s 5500m run. She was the only freshman to finish in the top-10 and helped the Yellow Jackets take down No. 19 Georgia. Knott’s average mile pace of 6:14.5 also aided in Tech’s impressive 24 points.
Knott became the first freshman to grab a top-10 finish since last year when sophomore Nicole Fegans came in 10th at the UGA Invitational. Tech’s first place finish moved the Jackets up to the No. 3 spot in the USTFCCCA women’s south region poll released Tuesday.
Georgia Tech cross country will return for the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown on Sept. 21 in Jamaica Plains, Mass. The women are slated to begin at 3 p.m., while the men are scheduled for a 4:15 p.m. start.
