Johnson, Bell Named Freshman All-America

ATLANTA–Georgia Tech wide receiver Calvin Johnson and placekicker Travis Bell have been named first-team Freshman All-Americas by Rivals.com.

Johnson, a true freshman from Tyrone, Ga., is Georgia Tech’s leading receiver with 46 catches for 776 yards, both Tech freshman records. He ranks second in the Atlantic Coast Conference in receiving yards per game (70.6), third in receptions per game (4.18) and second in touchdowns with six. Nationally, Johnson ranks second among freshmen in receiving yards per game.

Bell, a redshirt freshman from Roswell, Ga., has made a school-record 15 consecutive field goals. After missing his first attempt of the season, he has been perfect since, going 15-for-16 on the season. He ranks third in the nation in field goal percentage (.938). The Lou Groza Award semifinalist is also perfect on extra points and is Tech’s leading scorer with 69 points.
