Jackets Wrap Up Competition at Vanderbilt

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track and field teams concluded the weekend of competition with an individual victory and several top three performances on day two of the Vanderbilt Invite.

In the first round of the women’s 60-meter hurdles, Anna Witherspoon (8.49) placed first and Taylor Grimes (8.57) placed second to qualify for the finals. Witherspoon went on the win the finals with a time of 8.38 and Grimes earned a second-place time of 8.53.

Sheleah Harris finished second (7.51) in the first round of the women’s 60m and earned a victory in the finals with a time of 7.41.

In the men’s field events, Jamir Gibson placed fourth in the men’s shot put (18.07m/59-3.5) and John Watkins finished fifth in the men’s triple jump (15.00m/49-2.5).

Lydia Troupe took home seventh in the women’s 400m with a time of 57.34. On the men’s side, Jameson Miller (48.45) finished ninth and Bradley Favors (48.68, PB) finished in 10th place.

Jeremiah LaDuca was the first Jacket to cross the finish line in the men’s 800m with a seventh-place time of 1:51.42. Harrison Fultz came in 14th place (1:53.32) and Parker Buchheit finished in 16th place (1:53.63).

In the men’s 3000m, Leif Andersen placed 11th (8:24.80), Charlie Smith finished in 14th place (8:28.02) and Chris Cherono came in 16th place with a personal-best time of 8:28.14. On the women’s side, Mackenzie Walls ran a time of 9:56.99 to finish in 19th place and Katy Earwood finished 28th (10:05.58) in the event.

The men’s 4x400m relay team, comprised of Miller, Favors, LaDuca and Buchheit, ran a second-place time of 3:15.96. Troupe, Ilene Soleyn, Witherspoon and Amanda Ehrenhalt came in eighth in the women’s 4x400m relay with a time of 3:54.30.

Abbey Green (4:59.09) and Sophie Boice (5:00.38) competed in the women’s mile, finishing in 12th and 13th place.
