NEWPORT, R.I. – Georgia Tech opened day one of the Hall of Fame ITA Grass Court Invitational on Friday going 6-3 overall with four singles wins and two doubles wins. The three-day round-robin tournament is being played on the historic grass courts of the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
The Yellow Jackets went 4-2 in singles action with all wins coming in straight set victories. Seniors Rasheeda McAdoo and Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer both claimed their first wins of the campaign in fashion, defeating their opponents 6-2, 6-4 and 7-6, 6-4, respectively.
Today also marked the first day of collegiate competition for Tech’s four freshmen who went 2-2 in singles action on the day. Kenya Jones picked up her first collegiate victory with a triumph over No. 86 Olivia Hauger from California, who was forced to retire in the second set. Also victorious on day one was Nadia Gizdova who took a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Sabrina Xiong of Harvard.
Tech played three doubles matches on the day. McAdoo paired with Jones for an 8-4 win over Sophia Blanco and Carla Tur Mari of Oklahoma State. Luca Fabian and Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer picked up a win over Harvard’s Jasper/Gonzalez, 8-6.
