Jackets Victorious at Miami Fall Invite

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Georgia Tech women’s tennis opened the Miami Fall Invite on Friday collecting six victories between singles and doubles play.

Georgia Tech faced Northwestern to get the tournament started with singles action in the morning, pocketing five straight-set victories. Carol Lee handled Kiley Rabjohns, 6-2, 6-3, while Kylie Bilchev toppled Sydney Pratt, 6-3, 6-1. Facing Maria Shusharina, Mahak Jain grabbed the first set, 6-2, and jumped out with a 4-1 lead in the second. The Yellow Jacket sealed the straight-set victory, 6-2, 6-1.

Kate Sharabura made quick work of Autumn Rabjohns, cruising in the first set, 6-2. Sharabura dominated the second set to take the match, 6-2, 6-1. Rounding out Tech’s singles victories was Ruth Marsh, who collected a hard-fought battle against Elisa Van Meeteren. Marsh pulled out the first set, 6-4, and battled to the last point for a 7-5 second set victory.

The Yellow Jackets switched gears to doubles play in the afternoon. Returning to the doubles court together, Lee and Sharabura teamed up to pocket a 6-1 triumph over Pratt and Shusharina. Marsh and Meera Jesudason dropped a heartbreaker to Britany Lau and Jennifer Rister. In a tiebreak, Marsh and Jesudason grabbed the early lead, but couldn’t hang on, dropping a 7-6 (6) decision.

Action continues on Saturday with day two of the tournament at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
