AUBURN, Ala. – Four divers from the Georgia Tech swimming and diving team are at Auburn University this week for the NCAA Zone Championship, looking to secure one of 18 available spots to the NCAA National Championship.
Competing in the meet for the Jackets are juniors Brandon Makinson and Chris Khosravi on the men’s side and sophomore Ashley Hardy and senior Helen Alvey for the women.
Women’s 1-meter preliminaries begin at 11 a.m. Monday with finals to follow, and the men’s 3-meter event will get underway at 3:30 p.m. On Tuesday, the groups will switch places with men’s 1-meter in the morning and women’s 3-meter in the afternoon. The platform diving events will take place Wednesday with the men’s event beginning at 10:30 a.m. and the women set for a 3:30 p.m. start.
The meet brings together more than 80 divers from a six-state region. A total of 10 spots for the women and eight spots for the men are up for grabs as the Zone meet marks the only opportunity for collegiate divers to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
