Jackets Return to Action in NCAA Singles, Doubles

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s tennis will resume postseason play in Champaign, Illinois as four Yellow Jackets will compete in the individual NCAA Championships in singles and doubles this week. Carol Lee will open play on Monday in the singles draw. Doubles action begins on Tuesday with Lee and Kate Sharabura and Kylie Bilchev and Ava Hrastar representing Georgia Tech.

THE SCENE: The men’s and women’s singles round of 64 begins Monday, May 23 at 11 a.m. EST followed by the second round of singles and the opening round of doubles on Tuesday. Lee earned an at-large bid into the singles draw based on her national ranking and opens play facing No. 52 Maria Titova of Kansas on Monday morning at 11 a.m. EST. Lee has led the Jackets from the No. 1 singles position all season long and has climbed as high as No. 22 in the ITA national rankings.

Lee and Sharabura combined to post a 22-5 overall doubles record this season, climbing as high as No. 4 in the latest ITA rankings. The doubles team will open play on Tuesday facing No. 11 Allura Zamarripa and Peyton Stearns of Texas.

Bilchev and Hrastar, originally listed as alternates in the doubles field, earned entry as the No. 36-ranked doubles team in the country. The pair have posted a 19-9 overall doubles record, mainly from the No. 2 position. The Jackets open play facing Florida’s No. 23 Carly Briggs and Marlee Zein on Tuesday.

Action continues on Wednesday with the singles and doubles round of 16. The singles and doubles quarterfinals take place on Thursday, followed by the semifinals on Friday. The finals will be played on Saturday at 1 p.m. EST.
